Palomino Ridge Pools & Spas
Southern California Pool and Spa servicing company. This logo was inspired by western style lettering and branding. The client wanted just that, so I decided to give it a more modern approach, yet keeping a “western” aesthetic to the design. Both Autodesk Sketchbook and Adobe Illustrator were used in achieving this project. Four hours total were spent in the creation of this design.
Composition
Palomino Ridge Pools & Spas is a small business based out of southern California, servicing mostly in San Diego County. Because of it’s location, the client wanted to go with a “western-ish” sort of vibe.
This was to fit in with the aesthetic of the city in which much of the architecture in San Diego, resembles of what seems to be a Spanish Villa mixed with a 1890’s Western Victorian style.
Progression
In order to achieve said style. I needed to create a font that depicted just that. I created a font grid in Autodesk Sketchbook and began to sketch some block lettering. Once achieved, I took that sketch into Adobe Illustrator, where I then vectorized and added small triangles to each side of each letter.
These triangles help give it a more western feel, yet keep it somewhat modern. I then applied an arch effect to the font, to give it that nice rainbow shape, Thus making the logo look more dynamic.
Final Rendition
Even with text effects, it was still looking a bit stiff. I decided to add a drop shadow to the text, which I then blended in to the foreground text. This achieved the 3D look in the lettering.
Next, I added an outline to the entirety of the top and bottom fonts and connected the outlining shape into a solid looking plaque. Finally, I created a row of lines and added a clipping mask to the khaki portion of the font. Together, they achieved an old-timey feel to the font itself. The entirety of the project took 4 hours to complete.
