DIA DE LOS MUERTOS MOSAIC IPA
Inspired by Mexico’s Day of the Dead. This mock, Mosaic IPA bottle portrays Mexico’s colorful culture in a modernized mosaic design. The aesthetic of the bottle not only provides a modern look, but also makes it feel in character with the Halloween season.
Planning
I knew I wanted to make a beer bottle mock up. But not just any mock up. I wanted this one to feel bold and colorful, yet also make something along the lines of a seasonal release. One you would very much find in stores during a short window in the year.
With this in mind, I took to google for inspiration. After a few minutes of browsing, I was able to conjure up a few ideas of my own.
Because it is October, I decided to go with a “spooky” theme. More specifically, Mexico’s Day of the Dead, or “Dia de los Muertos” in Spanish.
Composition
Dia de los Muertos pans over the course of 2 to 3 days. It is a celebration of our late loved ones, and it is also to celebrate what their lives once were. This celebration dates back to the 16th century.
With that said, the aesthetic of Dia de los Muertos involves colorful skulls of all variations. To commemorate this aesthetic, I decided to sketch up a skull and outline a mosaic type pattern.
Once finished, I was able to color in each individual piece to give it depth and color.
Final Rendition
The color scheme was fairly easy to come up with, as I decided to go with the festive pigments used in Halloween and Dia de los Muertos.
I went with a matte black bottle, as it serves the perfect background for an already electric label. The offset skull provides a feel of depth, while the orange label makes the design as a whole pop out more.
From start to finish, the entire project took about 5-6 hours in total. Adobe Illustrator was used for the composure and graphics. Photoshop was used for the bottle and label placement.
